Release
UNI-MEI Calls for Support of Blue Man Group Boycott
in Canada
UNI-MEI, which represents theatre technicians and other staff
around the world, expresses its total support for the boycott
called by technical and talent unions in Toronto, for a boycott
of Blue Man Group in Canada until such time as they meet with
and work out arrangements to guarantee that they will abide
by professional area labour standards. We particularly condemn
Blue Man Group for its refusal to accept long standing relations
with the unions and the provisions generally followed in the
Toronto area. This is an affront to all who work in the sector.
Locals
58 and 822 of IATSE, which is affiliated to UNI-MEI at the
world level, the local Canadian Actors' Equity Association,
and the Toronto Musicians' Association are seeking to meet
with Blue Man Group. We urge any technicians, craftspeople
or staff who are in categories covered by UNI-MEI to have
nothing to do with this controversial group until its labour
situation is regularised. We declared our solidarity with
the local Canadian craftspeople, actors and musicians until
such time as Blue Man Group reaches agreements with them.
